Power Outage Prompts Sewage Spill in Howard County

Power has been restored at the Little Patuxent Water Reclamation Plant in Howard County, where a power outage caused raw sewage to overflow into the Little Patuxent River Tuesday morning.

Approximately two million gallons of sewage was leaking into the river every hour, officials say.

According to the Baltimore Sun, the spill started late Monday after two separate electrical feeds were cut off at the plant.

The power was restored around 11:30 a.m., and officials say it will take several hours to get the pumps back online.

Drinking and shower water has been deemed safe, but officials are urging residents to avoid waterways.
